Online Classes — Parent Policy

1. Enrollment & payment

Monthly subscription

  • Classes are billed monthly at a flat rate — Builders: $160/mo · Thinkers: $200/mo · Warriors: $240/mo.
  • Monthly tuition covers all scheduled classes in that calendar month.
  • Payment is due on the 1st of each month via Stripe. A payment link will be sent upon enrollment.
  • Enrollment is confirmed only after payment is received.

Drop-in classes

  • Drop-in classes are available at $40 (Builders) · $60 (Thinkers) · $60 (Warriors) per session.
  • Drop-in sessions must be paid in advance. No walk-ins.
  • Drop-in students are subject to availability — class size is capped at 6 students.

2. Cancellation & refunds

Subscription cancellation

  • You may cancel your monthly subscription at any time by notifying SVC Academy before your next billing cycle.
  • Cancellations received after the billing date apply to the following month — no partial refunds for mid-cycle cancellations.
  • To cancel, email coordinator@sv-chess.com or message us on WhatsApp.

Refunds

  • Full refund: if you cancel before your child attends their first class, a full refund will be issued within 5 business days.
  • Pro-rated refund: if your child has attended at least one class, a pro-rated refund will be calculated based on the number of classes not yet attended in that month.
  • No refund is issued for classes attended or missed without notice.
  • Internal program documentation and records.

Example: If your child attends 1 of 4 classes in a month and you cancel, you receive a refund for 3 remaining classes at the per-class rate.

3. Attendance & makeup classes

Session cancellation by student

  • Students may cancel a session up to 24 hours before class start time via Classcard.
  • Cancellations made with 24+ hours notice are eligible for a makeup class.
  • Cancellations made less than 24 hours before class — or no-shows — are not eligible for makeup or credit.

Makeup classes

  • Builders & Thinkers: makeup classes are available in another group of the same level within the same week, subject to availability.
  • Warriors: as only one Warriors session runs per week, missed classes (with 24+ hours notice) will be credited toward a future Warriors session.
  • Makeup classes must be scheduled through SVC Academy coordinator — students cannot self-assign to a group.
  • Maximum 1 makeup per month.

4. Code of conduct

  • Students are expected to arrive on time and be ready to learn at the scheduled class start.
  • Respectful behavior toward the coach and classmates is required at all times.
  • Disruptive behavior may result in removal from the class without refund.
  • Students should have a chess board or chess.com account ready before each class.
  • Parents of younger students (ages 4–8) are encouraged to stay nearby during class.

5. Technical requirements

  • A laptop, tablet, or desktop computer with a working camera and microphone.
  • A stable internet connection — minimum 10 MBPS recommended for smooth video.
  • A quiet space free from distractions during class time.
  • A free Chessable account (chessable.com) — setup instructions will be sent upon enrollment.
  • A Chess.com account for club arenas — free to create at chess.com.

Classes will not be paused or replayed due to technical issues on the student's side. Please test your setup before the first class.

6. Class cancellations by SVC Academy

  • If SVC Academy cancels a scheduled class, enrolled families will be notified at least 24 hours in advance by email and WhatsApp.
  • A makeup class will be scheduled or a credit will be applied to the following month.
  • SVC Academy reserves the right to cancel a class if enrollment falls below 2 students.

7. Online class liability waiver

By enrolling your child in SVC Academy Online classes, you acknowledge and agree to the following:

Screen time acknowledgment

Online chess classes involve screen-based learning. Parents and guardians acknowledge that participation requires device use for the duration of each session (60–90 minutes depending on level). SV Chess Academy is not responsible for managing or monitoring your child's total daily screen time outside of class.

Technical issues

Silicon Valley Chess Education LLC (SV Chess Academy) is not responsible for technical difficulties arising from the student's device, internet connection, or local setup. This includes but is not limited to poor video or audio quality, connectivity drops, software incompatibility, or platform outages on Chessable Classroom or Chess.com. No refunds or credits will be issued for missed class time caused by technical issues on the student's side.

Parent supervision

Parents and guardians of students ages 4–8 are responsible for assisting their child with device setup before each class and remaining available nearby during the session. For students ages 9 and above, parents are encouraged to ensure their child is settled and ready before class begins. SV Chess Academy coaches are not responsible for managing technical setup or supervising students outside of the live class instruction.
